TeachingI often think about the college classroom and my experiences as a teacher and a researcher in preschool settings. I am inspired by Engel’s (2006) assertions that young children’s curiosity needs to be actively guided and encouraged. This curiosity is important for young children as well as young adults and adults. Curiosity can lead to “probing thought, intellectual zeal, and drive to find out” which are all important ingredients of becoming educated (Engel, 2006, p.9). When I guide and encourage young adults and adults in my classes, my views comport with Engle’s assertions. As a teacher-scholar, I am striving to become adept with the learning process in higher education classrooms that accompanies curiosity. At times, it is a messy and inefficient process but an extremely hopeful and rewarding one. Please email me to request my full teaching philosophy.
